The following position is a part of IBM Canada’s EPIC (Employment Pathways to Interns & Co-ops) Student Program. These outstanding entry-level IT, sales, and corporate positions are limited to students registered in a Canadian University or College co-op or internship program, who have completed a minimum of 2 years of their degree or diploma program, and who will be returning to full-time study upon the completion of the temporary IBM workterm.

The new state-of-the-art IBM Toronto Lab, which contains 563,000 square feet of space and cost $125M to design and build, opened in September 2001 to our dynamic team of over 2,500 employees. It is the third largest research development facility in Canada and the third largest IBM software development Lab worldwide. The Toronto Lab has worldwide missions within IBM for database management, application development tools, network computing applications, and banking solutions.

The Database Technology group within the IBM Toronto Lab develops DB2 Universal Database — IBM’s powerful relational database management system.

DB2 product family software is strong enough to meet the demands of large corporations and flexible enough to serve medium and small-sized e-businesses.

The DB2 Security Development team has an opening available for a 4-month Co-op. The successful candidate will be assigned several tasks: including designing test cases for specific line items, executing test cases, investigating failures, investigating code defects, and helping other developers with some of their tasks.

At the end of the work term, the successful candidate will have acquired a working knowledge of the DB2 product, and will have learnt about the processes involved in developing, testing, and delivering a major software product.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Good working knowledge of C/C++ programming language
- Familiarity with database concepts and SQL
- Familiarity with DB2 Universal Database product
- Familiarity with UNIX, Linux, Windows operating systems
- Adaptability to different environments and quick learning capabilities
- Students applying to this posting must be registered in a co-op or internship program for the length of the placement
- Minimum one completed work term
- This position is intended for students who will be returning to full-time study upon completion of the co-op term
