The first website , is one of the best websites on the internets that has drug related information.
There were many categories on this sites that I found very helpful. For example, if one clicks on “Drug Rehab Centers” a long list of different Rehab centers appear.
Same thing for Drug Abuse, Drug Addiction, and others, it’s a very good website for drug abuse information and resources.
The second part of module 4’s exercise was a lit of websites pertaining alcoholism and drinking.
The first of these websites was totally about alcoholism. After reading the different links, I found the ‘complications’ link to be the most useful. If we educate the new generation about the complications that could occur with excessive drinking and alcoholism, they would reconsider every portion of alcohol they are going to consume.
These complications include: liver problems, gastrointestinal problems, cardiovascular problems, diabetes complications, Sexual function and menstruation, Birth defects, increased risk of cancer, and others. For anyone, knowing that abusing the consumption of alcohol will lead to such problems, it should be a scary issue.
The second website in the second part of the module, the article was about the Pros and Cons of alcohol consumption.
The Pros of alcohol included: Reduce your risk of developing heart disease, peripheral vascular disease and intermittent claudication, reduce your risk of dying of a heart attack, reduce your risk of strokes, particularly ischemic strokes, and few others.
Even though, the Pros seem appealing, it is ideal to look at the Cons’ list, which is a much bigger list than the Pros: Cancer, such as gastrointestinal, oral, pharynx, larynx, esophageal and liver cancers, as well as breast cancer in women, especially in people with high levels of triglycerides in their blood, Elevated levels of triglycerides in the blood, High blood pressure, Miscarriage, Injuries due to impaired motor skills, Sudden death in people with cardiovascular disease, Heart failure, Stroke, Alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, Fetal alcohol syndrome in an unborn child, including slow growth and nervous system problems, Suicide, and others. So, when one looks at the Cons of drinking, why would they even consider the few Pros?
The last part of this assignment was to check out a website that people in need could report to for help. Such websites are very important for anyone who needs help and is not able to get it from parents or friends. There must be ways in our society for people seeking help. Gladly, there are many resorts, it just needs commitment.
This week’s assignment was very beneficial, every week we learn more about drugs and their affects. The important part of this course is the resources that we are getting access to, it’s very useful.
