Underage drinkers

I certainly believe that the government should enforce stricter government regulations against underage drinkers.

The article “last Call for High-Risk Bar Promotions That Target College Students” had many different ways to show how the alcohol is advertised for college students.

I would have to agree with all of them.

The college students are targeted tremendously through alcohol marketing.

Whether they advertise cheap beer at stores, on-campus marketing, or the power of press, the college students are the main target for alcohol consumption because the sellers know that these students and especially undergraduate first and second year students are open for new experiences and for having a good time.

I do believe we should have stricter government regulations to control these advertisement and the underage drinkers.

There are many reasons why the government should do that, first of all these people, the college students that are targeted for the sake of money are in danger.

They are at a higher risk for automobile accidents and at high risks of health problems due to alcohol abuse.

Almost every weekend, students go to parties and plan “keg” parties.

Now would they be able to afford all this if it wasn’t cheap? Would they be able to do so if the places were stricter on checking IDs? Why is it easy to get a fake ID? There are many weaknesses in the system and there are many ways around the rules that these students are taking. The consequences are lower GPAs, unhealthy generation, and more…

The second part of this assignment was Drug Laws. I honestly didn’t have a lot of information about this subject.

I moved to the United States 6 years ago, when I was 14 years old. I never consumed any drugs or even alcohol. I felt that there was no need for me to know the drug law.

However, after going through college and living with roommates, I saw how much other people are affected and how much they are involved in such kinds of actions.

The stories I heard everyday were surprising, one wouldn’t imagine how many drug related cases are out there at school and how many alcohol abuse issues are present!

As for the last part of this assignment, the FDA section, I didn’t know that we can petition the FDA.

I was under the impression that only specific people could do that, such as doctors, pharmacists, educated people with PhDs… I even thought that these people would have to have a consensus on the argument and probably use a lawyer for the petition.

I would have never suspected that it is that easy. I suppose it makes sense, if one has enough evidence on an issue, he/she should be able to submit them to the FDA to pursue their argument and petition.

The page I found on www.fda.org had a page for petition that basically has the form listed, and all we need is just filling out the information and the supported documents. It’s important to learn what we can do and use them.

If we don’t stand out for ourselves, we might not get where we want. We should take a stand, especially when are able to and when we have the ways to do so. We should take advantage of the democracy provided in this country and use it for our best.
